South Manheim Township Road Crew Wins National Competition

Congratulations to the South Manheim Township Road Crew for being chosen as the winner of this year’s National Build a Better Mousetrap Competition! Each year the Federal Highway Administration recognizes local governments who pioneer innovations that improve transportation performance. The South Manheim Township road crew designed and created, “The Sidewinder”, a tool used to fill barriers or berms with compact materials such as gravel, soil, and rocks to control water flow along roadways.  The Sidewinder was submitted to the PA LTAP Build a Better Mousetrap Competition, where it won first place. State winners of the competition are then submitted to the National Competition where the Sidewinder was chosen as this year’s national winner for the Innovative Project Award. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated, hard-working road crew who previously won second place in the Build a Better Mousetrap Competition and first place in PennDot’s Road and Bridge Safety Improvement award program!
